Due to the hazardous floods in Chennai, India, a local taxi firm Ola, have updated their phone app to include boat pickups to help locals get transported, as well as help to deliver food and water supplies to people. This boat service is free to use and it is operated by the fire and rescue department of Tamil Nadu, and are managed by two rowers. The boats can ferry between five and nine passengers at time, and each passenger will be given an umbrella on board to protect themselves from more heavy rain.
How long this service will be available for is unknown, it is all dependent on how severe the weather gets and if it continues. The Chennai floods have had a detrimental and life changing effect on the South Indian city. 70 people have sadly lost their lives and more than 10,000 people have been evacuated. Our thoughts go out to those living in Chennai and to all the friends and families.
Rescue boats are common during torrential flooding, and in the UK, rescue boats are primarily inflatable boats. They’re UV resistant, have great abrasion resistance, as well as have the highest tear and tensile strength in the market. Inflatable boats are also simpler to use and to get started than other forms of boats. The more popular brand of inflatable boats is Seapro, who are now the main providers for rescue organisations including the fire and rescue team in the UK.
We here at Bill Higham stock a range of inflatable boats including Seapro, which are available in a range of sizes and purposes. These include:
- Heavy duty
- Paddle boards
- Aqua Marina
- Kayaks and Canoes
- Used inflatable boats
We have a team of experts available to answer any questions that you might have about inflatable boats, and they’ll be able to advise you on the type of boat that is best suited for your requirements.
